Driving My Cadillac
61Floating down the highway
My dad bought this 1965 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham dream car in 1966 and everyone in the family fell in love with it! My grandfather convinced my dad to sell it to him, and for years you would see my grandma and grandpa, two very small people driving around in their great big car,,, very slowlyI When I turned 16 I could occassionally take them somewhere in their car, downtown to buy groceries, to the bank, to the post office. But the biggest thrill of all, was to get to spend the time with them in the car driving out to the ranch.
The thrill of the highway in the well cared for old car was just too much fun for someone as reckless as me! lol Forty miles of curving highway seemed endless, yet to pass too quickly, then the long dirt stretch, having to go very slow so as to not tear up the car. I tried to teach my grandmother to drive in it,, but she always felt she needed a littler car to see better, and sadly never did learn to drive.
I inherited the car from my dad and have driven it some since. Just getting in and reliving the old days is almost as much fun as actually driving it. Of course getting out on the highway once again, just can't be beat!
